As we prepare our hearts for Holy Week, I present this prayer for our reflection and supplication.
The Precious Blood
Blessed Lord Jesus,
Before thy cross I kneed and see
the heinousness of my sin,
my iniquity that caused thee to be
‘made a curse’,
The evil that excites the severity
of divine wrath.
Who met the enormity of my guilt by
the crown of thorns,
the pierced hands and feet,
the bruised body,
the dying cries.
Thy blood is the blood of incarnate God,
its worth infinite, its value beyond all thought.
Infinite must be the evil and guilt
that demands such a price.
Sin is my malady, my monster, my foe, my viper,
born in my birth,
alive in my life,
strong in my character,
dominating my faculties,
following me as a shadow,
intermingling with my every thought,
my chain that holds me captive in the
empire of my soul.
Sinner that I am, why should the sun give me light,
the air supply breath,
the earth bear my tread,
its fruits nourish me,
its creatures subserve my ends?
Yet thy compassions yearn over me,
thy heart hastens to my rescue,
thy love endured my curse,
thy mercy bore my deserved stripes.
Let me walk humbly,
bathed in thy blood,
tender of conscience,
triumphing gloriously as an heir of salvation.
Amen.

Thanks for this prayer.
I'm so grateful that " . . . His heart hastens to my rescue!"
Where would I be without that?
Praise be to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

When I first read your 3/18 post, it was not long after you posted it. (I was in a hurry at the time) I remember thinking to myself, "Will people comment on this?" I wanted to but held off. Then I didn't get back to your blog until now. At first I read the prayer and it was good, but couldn't hold a feeding tube to the 18th.
By the way, my son Lynn's speech isn't improving, but he is blessed to be able to swallow. He spoke to a group of 400+ fitness men & women last weekend in Texas. (Bill Phillips invited him to speak) He shared his testimony and how God is using his situation for his good and God's glory! I guess God takes bodily functions to a whole new level, huh!
Let's keep on keeping on! Know I pray for you two when I pray for Lynn, so you are prayed for daily in northeast PA!
'...its worth infinite, its value beyond all thought...'
Yet His compassion , heart, love, mercy
Let me walk humbly
Thank you, John, for so many possibilities of prayerful focus.
Many, many prayers and often --
